Not everyone needs a Contracting Out Agreement (Prenup) to protect their assets. Here are examples of when a PreNup is recommended:

1. You have your own home and your new partner is going to live in the home with you.

2. You have considerably more assets than your partner going into the relationship.

3. You have a large inheritance on its way (particularly if the inheritance is going to be used to pay off your mortgage).

4. You have your own business or company you want to keep separate.

5. You want to keep your KiwiSaver (or other superannuation), savings, shares, and/or bonus bonds separate.

6. You want to keep your wages separate.

7. You have children from a previous relationship.

8. Your new partner has a lot of debt.
